With just three games until the end of the German Bundesliga season Union Berlin have given themselves a massive boost for a European ticket following Saturday’s 2-1 victory against RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Union Berlin came from behind to snatch all three points and keep a strangle hold on sixth place in the league standings.
In midweek RB Leipzig nicked a 2-1 win over Die Eisernen in the DFB Pokal and started this weekend on the front foot.
After cagey first half, the hosts snatch the lead immediately after the restart, Forward Yussuf Poulsen with the opener in the 46th minute.
This season Urs Fischer’s side have relied on goals from Taiwo Awoniyi, the Nigerian has scored 13 goals in the league this term, but couldn’t find the back of the net on Saturday.
He was substituted with five minutes to go and his replacement Kevin Behrens got the late winner after Sven Michel brought them level in the 86th minute.
The late winner completed a hat-trick of victories for Union Berlin over RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Next up for the Awoniyi and his teammates is a home game against Greuther Furth, then comes Freiburg away and a final home league game against Bochum.
Victor Osimhen could get a starter's spot when Napoli face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League tonight, though he was an injury doubt until matchday.
Napoli's head coach, Rudi Garcia has once again gone critical of Victor Osimhen's performance during the club's disappointing home defeat to Lazio on Saturday night.
