Toluwalase Arokodare scored on his debut to make sure of all three points when KRC Genk defeated KAA Gent 3-2 at the Ghelamco Arena to maintain a seven-point lead over second place Royale Union SG.
Another Nigerian, Yira Sor also got on the score sheet for KRC Gent in the Jupiler League encounter on Sunday.
Genk failed to grab all three points in the first game without Paul Onuachu, but did well in the second game.
It was a very a close encounter in the first half as the home team took the lead in the opening nine minutes through Hyunseok Hong, Genk however responded through Joseph Paintsil as the Ghanaian scored his 10th goal of the season in the 23rd minute, to grab the equalizer.
After a tough start to the second half, Wouter Vrancken made some tactical tweaks and introduced Arokodare and Sor in the 65 minutes, the change immediately revitalized Genk as the they took the lead two minutes later through Sor.
The Nigerian scored a very good header from Mike Tresor’s cross to give Genk the lead before Arokodare finished superbly when released through in goal by Nicolas Castro.
KAA Gent however scored another goal in the 88th minute, but it proved to be a consolation as the visitors saw off the game to claim all three points.
