Adam Armstrong scored a first-half brace to inspire Southampon’s home victory against Leeds United in the Championship on Saturday.

The goals moved Armstrong up as the league’s top scorer and his performance ensured Southampton snapped a four-game losing streak, moving them to 9th on the standings.

It was a dominant first half performance from the Saints, who took a three-goal into the interval – William Smallbone scored the other goal.

Leeds United got a consolation in the 58th minute through Pascal Struijk, but that was all she wrote.

Meanwhile, Joe Aribo was handed a cameo in the contest, coming on as a late sub for the Saints.

Aribo replaced goal hero, Armstrong in the 85th minute for his 8th appearance of the season.

The Nigerian has found game time hard to come by regardless. He has played only 118 minutes in total, and all but one of his appearances have been from off the bench.

However, Southampton boss, Russel Martin won’t feel too disappointed, but there’ll be little room for celebrations as the team now turns its focus to the trip away to Stoke City on Tuesday.
