Joe Aribo, was handed his first Premier League start of the year for Southampton, but the team ultimately lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace.

Since the beginning of the year, Aribo has spent more time watching from the sidelines than getting game action on the field.

In 2023 at St. Mary’s, the midfielder became a bit-part player at the club. He has featured just six times – for the struggling Saints – in all competitions.

Aribo made a surprise return to the starting lineup when they hosted in-form Crystal Palace.

Also, forward Paul Onuachu, started the game from the bench.

Aribo was presented with the chance to give Southampton the lead in the 12th minute, yet he was unable to capitalize.

He was sent a pass in the area, but he was unable to keep his effort on target, sending it soaring far past the goal.

This was his sole attempt of the match, as Onuachu was brought on for him in the 62nd minute.

Onuachu was also unable to find the back of the net, but he registered a shot that was on target.

Despite his efforts, a brace from Eberechi Eze saw Crystal Palace come away with the 2-0 win.

This result put Southampton in a difficult spot, as they are now four points away from safety, with only seven matches remaining in the season.
