Another Nigerian Moves To Manchester City

Manchester City have opened a new chapter in their long tradition of signing Nigerian youngsters, as The Citizens have added emergent goalkeeper, Gavin Bazunu to their youth squad.

In the wake of recent exploits by Tosin Adarabioyo, Lukas Nmecha and Tom Dele-Bashiru in Man City’s youth ranks, gathered that the latest Nigerian-born lad to talk about at Etihad Stadium arrives from Shamrock Rovers of Ireland.

Bazunu moves to City on the strength of his exploits with Shamrock, who revealed that Man City asked for the deal to come ahead of an initial agreement set for this summer.

The 16 year-old goalkeeper, who was a senior player with Shamrock, last season, was not expected in England this early, but the Irish side announced that Bazunu is moving to City for around €500,000 before the Irish season begins next month.

With Shamrock Rovers eventually agreeing to speed up the transfer, Bazunu has now already registered by City as an under-21 player, but with strong possibilities of featuring in the English Premier League.

Shamrock’s sporting director, Stephen McPhail expatiated, saying: ”Gavin has completed the move earlier than we originally expected.

”We originally planned for Gavin to stay at Rovers until July and see out his education to complete his Leaving Certificate at our education partner Ashfield College.

“Arrangements have been made to accommodate Gavin doing his studies and moving to Manchester and we wish Gavin all the very best in his career development at City.

”Working with Gavin, his family and the other parties involved we are happy that this is the best scenario for Gavin and for the football club.”
