An exemplary player! Musa pays tribute to Mikel

Ahmed Musa described John Mikel Obi as an exemplary player who gave everything for his clubs and country.

Mikel, who had successful careers at club and country levels announced his retirement from football on his official Instagram account, on Tuesday.

“There is a saying that “all good things must come to an end”, and for my professional football career, that day is today,” Obi said in a statement.

He further said, “I look back at the past 20 years of my career, and I must say that I am very satisfied with all that I was able to achieve and more importantly the human it has helped shape.

“All of this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, managers, clubs, coaches, teammates and most importantly my ever-loyal fans. You supported me through my highs and lows, even on days that I did not live up to your expectations. I say a big thank you.” Mikel stated .

Reacting, Musa and Moses Simon who themselves played alongside the midfielder in the green and white jersey of Nigeria, also took to their social media handle to pay tribute to the former Chelsea star.

“You have been an exemplary player and done great things in your career. Here’s wishing you the best as you retire today. Cheers to bigger things ahead and best wishes to you and the family.” Musa wrote on his Twitter page.

In addition, Simon wrote : “You were exceptional on the pitch and Inspirational off the pitch.Happy retirement Skippo”

The UCL and Europa League winner enjoyed enormous success during his 11-year career at west London as he amassed 372 appearances.

He made 96 appearances for Nigeria, scoring six goals and won the African Cup of Nations as well.
