Former Newcastle United striker, Shola Ameobi has confessed that he is in awe of The Magpies’ new strike force of Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.
Footballlive.ng reports that Ameobi was left gloating, after Rondon and Perez put up another brilliant partnership last weekend, as they combined well to to help the Magpies secure a come-from-behind win over Marco Silva’s side.
Ameobi noted that the duo were at their very best once again against Everton, as both players were on the score sheet.
Perez hit a brace to help Toon overturn a first-half two-goal deficit and get a 3-2 victory over The Toffees, for which Ameobi is also reeling.
Ameobi, who scored 75 goals in 390 games for Newcastle, also took a look at the club’s record signing Miguel Almiron, and praised Magpies’ gaffer, Rafael Benitez for getting the right partners on the pitch.
Almiron, who arrived from Atlanta United of USA in January, impressed on his fifth Newcastle appearance, as the St James’ Park outfit’s romped to a fifth consecutive home win, much to Ameobi’s delight.
Ameobi said: “Rondon coming in this season has been a huge plus for us. He does so much for the team and the way Rafa likes to set up.
“He is the striker who can hold it up. What I love is that Perez is actually starting to realise this.
“I think this is corresponding to the five wins we have had at home, the link-up play is because they are playing closer together.
“When you have got a guy like Rondon who can win his fair share of headers. They are really striking a bond and a good partnership.
“With the addition of Almiron coming in as well, the biggest thing that has changed is the attitude of the fans and that has affected the players in a very positive way.”
