Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has praised the friendly game against Algeria B.

The Eagles were held to a 2-2 draw by Algeria’s home-based team – Alex Iwobi and Cyriel Dessers were Nigeria’s goalscorers.

With a lot of new faces in camp, Awoniyi believes that the game was a great opportunity for the players to know each other better, and understand the Coach’s style.

“It was a good game, unfortunately, we didn’t win the game, I think it’s a game that helps us to get going, to know each other and to understand each other way of play and I think this is what the game is for,” Awoniyi said.

The 25 year-old Forward, who started the game, was disappointed that he couldn’t find the back of the net but he is satisfied with his overall performance.

He reiterated his desire to score for the Eagles saying that it is his duty as a striker.

“Every striker wants to score a goal, but in a striking role your jobs also is to bring your player into play, to bring your player into a position to score a goal.

“But of course, I want to score. Like I said your job as a striker is to score, to help your teammates.”
