Akwa United of Uyo led the way of highlighting the birthday of their returnee striker and top scorer, Mfon Udoh, as he clocked 27-years-old on Thursday, footballlive.ng reports.
The Promise Keepers led the way in felicitating with Doh, who became the Nigerian league’s eternal top scorer with 23 goals for Enyimba International of Aba in 2014.
Although he went on to become The Peoples’ Elephant, Udoh soon left the club under controversial circumstances.
Back then, Udoh remained discrete, as he simply said he left Enyimba as he needed a new challenge and chose to return to his former club, Akwa United because of the attractive style of game they play.
Before his second coming, Udoh spent a season at Akwa United as a 20-year-old scoring sixteen goals in 34 appearances in the 2013/2014 season before transferring to Enyimba at the end of that season.
In his first season with Enyimba, Udoh set the record for the most goals scored in a single NPFL season netting 23 times for the Aba-based side.
He would go on to spend five seasons with Enyimba, winning the league title in 2015 and emerged top scorer in the CAF Champions League in 2016, which got him a nomination for the CAF African Player of the Year.
He was made Enyimba captain in 2017, injury problems stopped him from making the best of the appointment, and he eventually departed under a cloud before the end of the 2017/2018 season.
In obvious appreciation of Udoh’s loyalty, his hometown club have now led the way in wishing him good tidings at 27, as they took to social media to celebrate the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) icon.
The Uyo club posted: “We celebrate our goal king, Super Eagles and Akwa United striker, 2014 record goal scorer (with 23 goals) and current NPFL leading scorer (7 goals in 10 games) Mr. Prolific Striker MFON UDOH as he marks his birthday. Keep scoring and keep shining. Happy Birthday to you!”
