Akpom revealed he celebrated PAOK’s domestic double last season with Pounded Yam

Although he was born and raised in London, former England youth international Chuba Akpom is every bit Nigerian – he was fed Nigerian Jollof.

Akpom, who is born to Nigerian parents, left England in 2018, bringing an end to his 15-year Arsenal career, because “there was no chance he could play for the Gunners’ first team”.


He headed to Greece, and joined PAOK Thessaloniki, where he won a league and Cup double last season.


In true champion style, the Forward celebrated with some Nigerian delicacies, prepared by his Mum.


In a exclusive interview with brila.net, Akpom revealed his favorite Nigerian dishes – as he also revealed a switch of international allegiance to the three-time African champions.


When asked how he feasted for the club success last term, he said, “My mum still cooks Jollof rice and pounded Yam for me, that’s how I celebrate.


“It’s always good to play where you’re loved. If you play for England you may only play a few games or caps and then you’re dropped for the next striker, who is hot.”


My Nigerian idol has always been Kanu; he was a striker and he also played for Arsenal. People have always compared my style to his.
