Ajax’s new signing, Chuba Akpom has recently expressed his admiration for club legend Denis Bergkamp, and believes there are similarities in their playing styles.

Akpom moved to Ajax from Middlesbrough, where he stunned with 29 goals in 41 appearances last season, marking a career-high.

Questions about his best position arose in a presser after his full debut with Ajax, and the ARsenal academy product believes playing alongside a proper no. 9 is it.

“Bergkamp was a fantastic player, who, of course, also played at Ajax. He could play as a false nine and connect the game,” Akpom told Ajax TV.

“He was also very physical. Everyone talks about his technique, but he was merciless. I also have that a bit because I also try to play as a second striker. I also have the technical and physical qualities.”

“It’s good to use these types of players as inspiration and learn as much as possible from them.”

Chuba Akpom made his full debut for the club in their 3-1 loss at Twente at the weekend.
