Former Nigeria International Obafemi Martins was remembered after historic UEFA Champions League match between Ajax Amsterdam and conqueror Tottenham Hotspur at Ajax Arena on Wednesday night.
The game ended 2-3 in the favour of the English team but Ajax Captain Matthijs De Ligt joined the Nigerian and two other players as the only teenagers to score he champions league semi-final match.
De Ligt scored his side’s first goal with a towering header on his way into the history book, he joined Kyllian Mbape who scored in the semi-final for Monaco back in 2017 , Nordin Wooter who incidentally scored for Ajax in 1996 and Martins whose goal for Inter Milan against rivals Ac Milan wasn’t enough to send the Blue and Black side to the final in 2003.
Martins who’s now with Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua scored his first Champions League goal in a match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen to secure Inter’s place in the quarterfinals in same year, he followed it up by scoring in Inter 3–1 win at Anderlecht in the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League group stage to become the first ever teenage to score in three consecutive Champions League.
