Aina, 25, has less than 12 months left on his current deal, but there’s been no report of discussions about an extension.
All the uncertainty around his future, promted concerns the Nigerian might find game time coming few and far between in the new season, but his performance through pre-season was top notch and professional.
He was then rewarded with a first start in the opening game of the campaign for il Toro by manager Ivan Juric.
On the day, the Nigerian was very busy, contributing 4 tackles, 4 drlibbles, 1 interception, 2 clearance, 2 blocks and rated one of the better players on the pitch.
Torino shot into the lead late in the first half, Aleksey Miranchuk (43′) scored from an Antonio Sanabria assist.
In the second half, they continued from where they left off and this time Sanabria volleyed home in style for the second goal, in the 66th minute.
However, the hosts pulled one back, through Dany Mota (90+3′), a consolation for their dominance throughout the game.
