Former Super Eagles forward, Jonathan Akpoborie has opined that current captain, Ahmed Musa should consider retiring from International football.

Musa, 30, initially announced that he would retire from international football, however, did not state the exact date.

Reacting to questions on if it was right for the winger to continue to make the team, even when he has been less active at club level, speaking on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred With Ifeanyi Udeze, Akpoborie suggested that younger players should be brought in in the stead of the veteran.

“He has been a very loyal servant for Nigeria, but sentiments apart now, he has no business in the Super Eagles right now,” the former Striker said.

“We have so many young players who will use that space to gain the kind of experience he himself gained when he was young, we need to catch those players young now, so, whatever the FA or the coach is trying to do by bringing him in the team now, is very wrong.”

“I am a fan of Ahmed Musa, but it is the right time to develop younger players in that position.”
