After a dramatic 1-1 draw against Bochum on Saturday, Chidera Ejuke’s Hertha Berlin were relegated to the Bundesliga 2 for next season.

Hertha Berlin needed to win against Bochum at the Olympiastadion in order to maintain their chances of surviving.

Ejuke, who recently returned from a long-term injury, was selected for the matchday squad – for the fifth straight game – he however did not make the starting eleven.

In the 65th minute of play, the Nigerian entered the match, he hit two shots on goal, one of which hit the woodwork.

The 25 year-old completed four dribbles, four crosses and won five of his six duels.

Hertha Berlin let a goal in late, Keven Schlotterbeck’s powerfully header best the goalkeeper to cancel out Lucas Tousart’s 63rd-minute opener.

Hertha Berlin now occupy 18th position, four points behind Bochum, who are just above the relegation zone as a result of the draw.

It would be hard for them to avoid relegation with just one game remaining until the end of the season.

Chidera Ejuke might not be playing in the 2. Bundesliga next season though, as he will return to his parent club CSKA Moscow where he has only one year left on his currently running contract.
