Enyimba lost the first-leg of their African Football League quarter-final tie against Wydad Casablanca in Uyo.
A first-half penalty converted Wydad captain, Yahya Jabrane, after Olorunleke Ojo clattered into Ayoub El Amloud after lofted pass caught the Enyimba defence flat.
Jabrane’s goal in the 39th minute was the biggest in the game as the teams struggled to create chances and particularly for the hosts.
Finidi George would feel disappointed as his team only managed a shot on target despite having 20 goal attempts.
Daniel Daga went close to leveling for the hosts in the second half, but his effort dragged just wide of Wydad’s goal.
To compile their misery, Alalibo Somiari was shown a straight red card for fouling an opponent as the last man.
Sunday’s result means Enyimba need more than a marginal victory in the second leg or their campaign comes to an abrupt end.
