Nigeria’s participation at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations next month among other things is primarily to fight for a place at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Speaking on the objective top of his mind Nigeria’s head Coach Randy Waldrum did not mention winning the Women’s AFCON Championship.
Although it is a competition he wants to win, also being his debut campaign, Waldrum has already set the priority for his team and staff.
Speaking to NFF TV in Rabat where the team’s base is for the group stages, the American outlined his top two priorities.
“Probably the two biggest things that come to mind is thinking ahead of the importance of qualifying; the world cup qualification has always been the goal,” the Falcons Coach said.
“As much as we want to win the AFCON championship – the most important thing right now is qualifying.
“Then, the other thing a Coach is always concerned with is preparation – are we getting enough preparation, are we getting things done the right way.”
Nigeria is the defending champion of the competition and they team will open the title defence with a difficult fixture against South Africa – July 4 – in group C at the Stade Moulay Hassan.
