Guinea-Bissau were never underrated and the Djurtus were seen as a stubborn team that posed considerable threat, Alex Iwobi has revealed.

Nigeria lost the home leg of the qualifier against Guinea-Bissau, then bounced back to snatch a narrow win at the Estadio 24 de Setembro.

Moses Simon converted from the penalty spot at the half-hour mark, and it was enough for Nigeria’s victory in Bissau.

Reviewing Nigerian’s tie, Iwobi said, “It was a very difficult game, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy playing away from home, for Guinea-Bissau to want to defend what they have, but when we were able to get the one goal that we needed, they came out of their defence and tried to attack us, but we were resilient and were able to keep a clean sheet.”

“We had the attacking threat which always cause opposing defenders problems, and was able to get a goal. It is nice to able to get a goal by penalty and able to keep a win.

“Honestly, you know football can change at any given in time, so we couldn’t be complacent, obviously, we’ve seen the threat they have upfront.”

“I would never say it was one hundred percent in the bag but I trusted my teammates that if we keep up the good work and kept on fighting until we were able to get the result and were able to do so.”
