Sierra Leone closed the gap with Nigeria in Group to just a point after the comfortable 2-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Sunday.

Two first-half goals from Abu Bakarr Samura (7′) and Alhassan Koroma (24′) in Stade Agadir, handed the Leone Stars their first win of the campaign.

Both sides had settled for a share of the spoils in the first-leg four days ago at the same venue in Morocco.

It was a four-goal thriller, with Sierra Leone twice coming from behind, Abu Komeh’s 78th minute equalizer earned John Keister’s men a point.

Veteran forward Luis Leal (35) had twice scored; in the 43rd and 59th minutes. Mustapha Bundu pulled the hosts level (43′) the first time.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Nigeria will return to action against Guinea-Bissau, looking to redeem the 1-0 defeat in Abuja.

A win for the Super Eagles will see them leapfrog the Djurtus and reclaim the group A top spot.
