Mama Balde’s first half goal inspired his Guinea-Bissau to a spirited performance and victory against Nigeria at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Friday.

Guinea-Bissau, ranked 118th in the world, stunned Nigeria to win and go top of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group.

Balde’s one touch effort slide right under Francis Uzoho, who was left at the mercy of the Striker as his Center backs were beaten by Opa Sangante’s long pass.

The visitors could have doubled their lead moments later, but, the attacker’s shot hit the side netting.

Despite all Jose Peseiro threw at it, the team fell short and recorded their first defeat of the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, it was also Peseiro’s fourth straight defeat since losing to Algeria (2-1), Costa Rica (0-1) and Portugal (4-0).

Next for the Super Eagles is the away leg of the tie, which comes up March 27 in Bissau at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro.
