Super Eagles and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has expressed disappointment at the exit of Egypt at the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Egypt – hosts of the 32nd edition of the AFCON won all their games in the Group stages but surprisingly lost against South Africa in the round of 16.

Alex Iwobi who had a decent game for the Super Eagles against South Africa on Wednesday made a great assist in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over South Africa in the AFCON 2019 quarterfinal.

Speaking with footballlive.ng the Super Eagles attacker said, “The exit of the hosting team is sad. Morocco’s knockout was also surprising. We know the quality of Egypt players and their quality.

“It’s not the first time for me in Egypt. It’s a great country and everyone is helping and welcoming us greatly.

“(Mohamed) Elneny is a great friend. He was too concerned to help me in Egypt and he is one of my closest teammates at Arsenal.”
