AFCON 2021: Nigeria wrap up Group campaign with perfect record

Nigeria made it three wins out of three in the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with a hard fought 2-0 victory against Guinea Bissau at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on Wednesday.

Two second half goals from Sadiq Umar and William Troost-Ekong broke the resilience of the Djurtus in an encounter where Nigeria’s head coach Austin Eguavoen made Eight changes to his starting XI.
Whilst the win means the Super Eagles, three times champions of the AFCON, are the only team to record a perfect winning record in the group stages of the tournament in Cameroon, defeat for Guinea Bissau means an end to their campaign.
Speaking after the game, Eguavoen insists his team will not get carried away with the results garnered so far and has reiterated the need to not look “too far ahead, but to take them game as they come.”
Next for Nigeria is a round of 16 clash against the third placed team in either group E or group F.
That fixture is scheduled for January 23 at the Roumde Adjia Stadium.
