In a hard-fought match, Ademola Lookman made a significant contribution by scoring the crucial opening goal in Atalanta’s 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Genoa at the Gewiss Stadium.

Atalanta dominated much of the first half, creating numerous opportunities but struggling to find the back of the net.

Lookman, in particular, had a fantastic chance in the 38th minute, but his shot was blocked by Genoa’s Nicola Leali.

Despite their offensive efforts, the first half ended without a goal.

In the second half, both teams showed increased determination. Lookman had another notable opportunity 18 minutes into the second period, but Genoa’s goalkeeper saved his strike.

Nonetheless, Atalanta’s persistence paid off in the 68th minute. Lookman exhibited great awareness, seizing an opportunity from a cross delivered from the left.

Although he was under pressure from a Genoa defender and was even on the turf following a challenge, he managed to fire a shot.

Initially ruled offside by the referee, the goal was subsequently confirmed as valid after a VAR review, which took about four minutes.

Lookman was substituted in the 79th minute for Mario Pasalic, and though Genoa went on the offensive in the closing stages of the game, Atalanta however sealed the points with a second goal through Ederson.

His goal was his 16th in 40 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A, equaling his total in 118 appearances in the top 5 European leagues, including stints with Leicester, Fulham, Leipzig, and Everton.
