Abia Warriors strolls past Heartland in oriental derby to brightened survival hope


Abia Warriors brightened their chance of surviving the relegation water following a comprehensive derby win over Heartland in Oweri on Sunday.


The Naze millionaires welcome their Eastern rivals to the Okigwe stadium for a clash that promises to be battle of pride.

Abia Warriors came into the game at the back of their 3-1 win over FC Ifeayin Ubah at home last Sunday.

Heartland drew the first blood in the 11th minutes through Nnamdi Egbujor who scored to get the home crowd on their feet.

Heartland’s lead won’t last long , as Abia Warriors hit back through Ibrahim Olawoyin in the 24th minutes.

Both teams went into half-time break all squared , but Abia Warriors continued where they left off after the restart and got their second goal with a minute before hour mark, Ibrahim Olawoyin again was the man .

Abia Warriors’ second goal was a killer blow to Heartland as the home side collapsed in front of the home fans who watched in pain , the away side scored two more goals through Jimoh Oni and Fatai Abdullahi in the 68th and 86th minutes respectively to capped a memorable evening.

However, there was a nine minutes additional time and Chigozie Igoh scored reduced the deficit for Heartland in the 7th minutes of the added time.

As a result of the victory, Abia Warriors now has 24 points from 19 matches and they occupied 10th position on the log of Group B.

The Emmanuel Deutsch side are now one points behind Plateau United, Heartland and Go Round who seventh , eighth and ninth position with 25 points.
