Enyimba FC’s bid to reach the group stage of the Champions League is still on course, but Technical Adviser, Usman Abd’Allah insists his team is still a work in progress.
The two times CAF African champions breezed past Rahimo FC 5-0 (5-1 aggregate) in the second-leg of their preliminary match in Aba on Sunday, and though he praised his team’s decisiveness in front of goal, Abd’Allah believes there’s still room for improvement.
“We are still reintegrating the team, as of last year we had this problem of scoring goals, and with three players sharing five goals today (Sunday), You can imagine there’s been a lot of work behind the scene,” He told footballlive.ng.
“When you are playing against a team like this, the most important thing is not to let them play. We did a lot of closing up play and the we are getting fitter even though, but we still have some way to go.”
Abd’Allah stressed the importance of Sunday’s victory for the team given that progressing to the first round also offers them a Confederation Cup cushion.
“We had no other option than to win, because if we lose this chance then we fail to progress even to the Confederation cup, so with all that, we psyche the players and counselled them; you saw their response. It’s all about hard work and I congratulate the players for the victory.”
