Al Masry threw away an early lead as they crashed 2-1 at home to Aswan in the Egypt Professional League match on Thursday.

The hosts took an early lead, Elyes Jelassi converting from the penalty spot, but Aswan responded before the close of the half.

Despite missing from the spot in the 35th minute as Ahmed Belhadji’s kick was saved, the visitors dug in and got the leveler just four minutes later.

Belhadji redeemed himself as he found Islam Salah in the right position, laid the ball off for his teammate who converted to close the half with the scoreline tied.

In the second half there was a dearth of clear goal scoring opportunities, but the game was decided in stoppage time and in as similar style as the first goal.

Gabonese forward Malick Evouna held his nerves to tuck the ball home from the penalty spot in the 10th minute of added time to seal the win.

Meanwhile, Nigerian midfielder Raphael Ayagwa played the entire duration of the encounter, making his 7th league appearance of the season for Aswan.

Ayagwa moved to the Egypt league as a free agent after his time with Lobi Stars last season.

His compatriot Anthony Okpotu was on the bench for Al Masry. Okpotu also made his move in the summer, but has seen very little game time.

Okpotu who also played for Lobi Stars in the NPFL before his move abroad, has only featured four time in the league for Al Masry.
