38-year-old striker Aritz Aduriz handed Athletic Bilbao victory over La Liga champions Barcelona on the opening day of the season with a brilliant solitary effort.

The Catalan Giants were punished when substitute Aduriz found the net with a stunning overhead kick in the 89th minute.

Barcelona struggled to impress without the injured Lionel Messi, despite fielding new £107m signing Antoine Griezmann, and Suarez was forced off with a first-half injury.

The closest they came was Luis Suarez and Rafinha both hitting the woodwork.

Aduriz becomes the only player, after Messi, to have scored in 15 consecutive seasons in La Liga.
