Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai has expressed his confidence in the team’s potential to make a significant impact at the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Under the leadership of coach Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagles is aiming to secure a fourth AFCON title when the tournament takes place in Cote d’Ivoire next year and he has reiterated this vision many times in different interviews.

Nigeria had a disappointing outing in the previous AFCON tournament two years ago in Cameroon, where they were eliminated in the Round of 16.

However, Peter Rufai, a key member of the Super Eagles side that achieved continental victory at the 1994 edition, remains optimistic that the team can overcome past challenges and emerge victorious in Cote d’Ivoire.

“I have a strong belief the Super Eagles will do well in Cote d’Ivoire,” Rufai told reporters.

“You can’t always rule out the Super Eagles from doing well in a competition like the AFCON. The Nigerian spirit is always there as well as the quality. I believe the team will surpass expectations in Cote d’Ivoire.”
