Nathan Tella marked his debut international call up with a goal over the weekend in Bayer Leverkusen’s drubbing of Union Berlin.

Tella got a call up to the Nigeria MNT squad for this month’s FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

It’s the 24 year-old’s first ever national team invite despite his eligibility to play for England.

On Sunday, the winger was a second-half substitute in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga match at the Bay Arena against Union.

He came on for Jeremie Frimpong in the 81st-minute and made a quick impact, finding the back of the net two minutes later for his debut Bundesliga goal.

Bayer Leverkusen sealed a 4-0 victory on the day to extend their unbeaten run this season (17 games) in all competitions.

The former Arsenal and Southampton academy product joined Leverkusen on a five-year deal from the Saints worth £20 million.

Sunday’s goal is only his second for the club, following his strike in the 2-1 victory over Molde in last month’s UEFA Europa League match.
